Green Deal Home Improvement Fund

Boost the Value of Your Home with the Green Deal

The second stage of the Government’s Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) offers cashback and incentives to home owners on such things as new boilers, double glazing and insulation.

Energy-efficient updates to your home can be expensive but the GDHIF has a pot of £120 million which is available on a first come, first served basis. The fund is designed to give grants of up to £7,600 to home owners to help cover the cost of these improvements.

The new GDHIF gives domestic energy customers an option of two core offers (energy efficiency grants) and two extra add-on offers.

The first core offer provides home owners with up to £1,000 cashback on two energy-saving improvements from a set list of 12 eligible measures which are as follows:

Condensing gas boiler (on mains gas), fan-assisted storage heaters, flue gas heat recovery, replacement warm air unit, waste water heat recovery, cavity wall insulation, flat roof insulation, floor insulation, room-in-roof insulation, double/triple glazing (replacing single glazing), secondary glazing, energy efficient replacement doors.

Core offer two provides up to £6,000 cashback or 75% of the total cost of the installation of internal or external solid wall insulation. Please note that home owners can choose one or both core offers.

Home owners who have bought a property within the last twelve months prior to their application will also qualify for an additional £500 grant. Furthermore, you can get £100 of the cost of your assessment costs refunded.

Marcus Payne, managing director of GES Mechanical UK Ltd, said: “This new offering from the Government is a much better alternative to the original Green Deal proposals.

“Initially, the Government were offering loans which have been slow on the uptake but these new grants should prove popular as they’re very generous and offer flexible payment options.

“If you’ve been considering home improvements such as insulation, double glazing or a new condensing gas boiler then now is the time to act before the pot dries up.”

Please note you can pay upfront for the measures yourself, or you can borrow money from the Green Deal finance scheme and pay back from the savings you make on your energy bills.

“It’s pleasing to see the Government are trying to do something to help people keep their homes warmer and cheaper to run with lower energy bills.” Marcus added.

How the GDHIF will work

The grants for energy-saving home improvements will only be available to those who apply for a GDHIF voucher to carry out measures that are recommended in an appropriate Green Deal Assessment report or an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The upgrades must then be undertaken by a registered and competent Green Deal installer or provider.
