Wind Powered Energy
Wind power is the UK’s number one economic source of renewable energy and the technology to harness it is both tried and tested here in our country. After all, we do live in the windiest country in Europe!
As an alternative to fossil fuels, wind power is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land for installation.
Wind turbines simply convert the kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical energy which is then used to drive a generator that converts this energy into electricity which can then be used at home or your place of work.
Wind turbines work at their best when they’re in an unobstructed flow of air and are mainly found in open spaces such as farms, golf courses, country estates, schools and colleges and domestic properties with large gardens or adjoining fields.
The UK has more usable wind power than any other European country and large scale wind turbine farms on and offshore will become a major supplier of electricity to the national grid in the next twenty years.
As part of the government’s generous feed in tariff, a tax-free financial reward is paid to owners of small wind turbines generating carbon-free energy who are helping the country meet its renewable energy commitments. Click here for the latest feed in tariff data.
